If you’re thinking of going camping this summer, one Vermont campground was recently named one of the top 10 best places to camp in the Northeast.
The Dyrt, a website for camping and camping enthusiasts, recently compiled a list of the best camping spots, based on the campground reviews and ratings of their community.
Only three places in New England made the list, and one of those was in Vermont at the number six spot on the list: Smugglers Notch State Park in Cambridge.
Why Dyrt like Smugglers Notch State Park
When it comes to the park, it’s nestled in one of the most popular areas in the Green Mountains, which added to its appeal.
Here’s what Dyrt said: “The 20 tent sites and 14 lean-to spots here are mostly walk-in, adding to the serenity of the campground, which is set in the notch between Mount Mansfield, the highest peak in the Green Mountains, and Spruce Peak in the Sterling Range. There are a few RV spots, but it’s geared more toward tent campers. All the facilities, including restrooms and hot showers, are new and powered by alternative energy. There’s easy access to Bingham Falls and other hiking options, firewood and ice are for sale, as an impressive setting in the woods among thousand-foot cliffs awaits.”
The Dyrt community’s Janet B said the site was beautiful during peak fall foliage time.
“We stayed last year during the fall and the views were breathtaking. Close to tons of beautiful hikes. As for the campground. It was quiet, comfortable, and kid- as well as pet-friendly. Would definitely camp here again,” Fransheska A. of the Dyrt community said.
How much does it cost to camp at Smuggler Notch State Park
It costs $20 to set up a tent or RV and $30 to set up a basic lean-to in Smugglers Notch State Park as a Vermont resident, according to the Vermont State Parks website.
