(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The Manitou Incline is a favorite experience for locals and visitors alike. This Saturday, June 22, from 4 a.m. to 8 a.m., hikers will participate in the 2nd Annual Suncline, to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Association.
The Alzheimer’s Association is a nonprofit organization that raises awareness and resources to help those suffering from Alzheimer’s Disease and Dementia, along with their families and caregivers. The Suncline hike is part of the association’s “The Longest Day” campaign, which commemorates the Summer Solstice—which holds special significance for caregivers, for whom long days are a normal occurrence.
“For family caregivers of those living with Alzheimer’s, each day can be a 24-hour challenge to keep their loved one safe,” said Jim Herlihy, Senior Director of Marketing & Communications at the Alzheimer’s Association Rocky Mountain Region.
Alzheimer’s disease is the 7th-leading cause of death and affects more than 91,000 people in Colorado. 7 million people nationwide are living with Alzheimer’s, which is incurable. The funds raised during the Suncline hike will go to fund research and provide free information and services.
