Farmingdale State – 8; Vermont State University Castleton – 1

CASTLETON, Vt. | The Farmingdale State College women’s tennis team made it three victories in as many matches on its northern trip, as the visiting Rams (4-2) defeated host Vermont State University Castleton (1-6) by an 8-1 score on Sunday afternoon.

FSC swept through the three doubles matches against the Spartans, including an 8-2 decision in the third flight by sophomores Heather McGullam (Hauppauge, N.Y.) and Rebecca Ness (Clintondale, N.Y.) versus Olivia Rutkowski and Devon Kibbey. The Rams’ top-two tandems earned identical 8-5 victories in their respective matches, including the No. 1 team of junior Lien Collings (Merrick, N.Y.) and freshman Natalia Furchell (Manorville, N.Y.) against Stella Forte and Madelyn Nonni, and the second-flight squad of sophomores Amanda Jones (Mastic Beach, N.Y.) and MacKenzie Gisler (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) versus Ginny Trevisan and Camille Jackson.

Furchel swept past Nonni by scores of 6-0 and 6-2 to collect the No. 2 singles flight, while Gisler split her first two sets at No. 3 against Trevisan before capturing a 14-12 victory in the subsequent super-tiebreaker. Loria dispatched Jackson in the fourth flight by counts of 6-1 and 6-4, with sophomores Mikayla DeMaria (W. Babylon, N.Y.) and Elizabeth Cintron (Oakland Gardens, N.Y.) earning wins at the Nos. 5 and 6 flights against Rutkowski and Kibbey, respectively.

Head coach Adam Waterhouse’s side next continues its Skyline Conference slate on Tuesday afternoon, when FSC plays host to Manhattanville College at 4:30 p.m.
